Ami Paris Heart-Embroidered Denim Shirt Review: The Button and Stitch Checks That Decide It
Insight
Priya NairWe bought the $47.01 Ami Paris heart-embroidered denim shirt through Kakobuy, then measured it flat and photographed the embroidery, buttons and topstitching under daylight against the listing.
Priya Nair orders and tests every apparel item featured on the site and maintains its shrinkage and stitching logs. Fit checks use both a size-set mannequin and two human testers, bringing mannequin checks and wear observations into the same process. Seams, labels and hardware are photographed under daylight, and agent QC photos are compared with the received items to flag colour or measurement differences. Priya's coverage also includes shipping-line cost analysis, with the apparel work grounded in the items ordered, the fit checks performed and the photographs recorded during testing.

We ordered the Ami Paris Heart-Embroidered Denim Shirt — catalog SKU 7704995532, priced at $47.01 against a listed original of $52.88 — through Kakobuy and had it sent to our Rotterdam desk in size L, denim blue with the heart motif. The short version: the shirt we received is a tidier garment than the page selling it. Below is what we measured, what we photographed under daylight, and which parts of the listing we could not confirm and are therefore leaving open.
What arrived, and how the page describes it
The parcel reached the warehouse intact. Our unit arrived without a branded hangtag or retail bag, but the approved QC photos and the received item matched each other on colour and construction, and we found no transit damage to the collar, cuffs or button placket.
The catalog entry itself describes cotton denim with a regular fit, a classic collared neckline, a button front, long sleeves, a straight hem and a single heart-shaped embroidery on the chest, offered in blue or cream. Its own feature list is wider than that. It names two short denim jacket codes ("2266" and "2288", listed in denim blue, cream, or cream with a red heart) alongside a "2215 badge oxford shirt" in cream. That mismatch is the single biggest risk on this page, and we have kept it on the record rather than smoothing it over for the seller.
Flat measurements against the listing
Everything here is our own tape measurement on the size L that arrived, taken with the garment buttoned and laid flat, compared with what the page publishes.
| Point | Our size L, flat | What the page states |
|---|---|---|
| Chest, pit to pit | 58 cm | No published centimetres; S–XL only |
| Shoulder, seam to seam | 47 cm | Regular fit, no figure |
| Sleeve, shoulder seam to cuff | 62 cm | Long sleeve, no figure |
| Back length, collar base to hem | 74 cm | Feature list gives a 50–65 cm band |
| Heart motif, embroidered area | 22 mm × 20 mm | "Heart-shaped embroidered motif" |
Two things came out of that table. First, the body-length band in the feature list (50–65 cm) does not describe a full-length shirt, which reinforces that the size block on this page belongs to a different garment or a different style code. Second, the 62 cm sleeve is unremarkable for a size L shirt, but long-sleeve AMI measurements do travel between releases — a rep-community QC post on a different AMI knit flagged a charted 60 cm sleeve at XL as suspiciously short. Treat published sleeve numbers on AMI long-sleeve pieces as a check, not a promise.
Fit on the mannequin and two testers
Our size-set mannequin wears M, so we judged proportion rather than fit on the form: the collar sits close without gaping, the placket lines up when buttoned, and the curved hem falls below the hip. Tester A is 178 cm and normally wears L; Tester B is 165 cm and normally wears S. Both reported the cut as a genuine regular fit — not oversized, not tight, with enough room to layer a tee underneath and enough structure to wear open over a shirt. Neither tester wanted to size up or down, which is consistent with the retail sizing advice we could find for AMI shirts generally.
Embroidery, buttons and topstitching
Photographed in daylight at macro distance, the heart is a clean satin-stitch fill in a tobacco-brown thread, with even edges and no thread nests or skipped stitches on the reverse of the chest panel. The contrasting topstitching along the placket, cuffs and yoke matches the retail look we compared it against. We logged one loose thread at the left cuff, trimmed on test, with no effect on the seam.
The buttons are the clearest departure from retail. On our unit they are pearlescent plastic with no visible engraving on the face. The retail shirt uses mother-of-pearl buttons carrying the Ami logo. They function normally and hold the placket flat, but if the hardware is the part you care about, this is where the gap shows.
Wash and shrinkage check
We ran the shirt on a cold 30 °C wash and line-dried it on our humidity-controlled shelf. Back length moved less than 0.5 cm, inside our flag threshold, and the contrast stitching did not pucker. The denim did release some colour on the first wash, so wash it separately or with other dark denim the first time rather than with lighter layers.
What to verify before you approve shipping
- Ask the agent to confirm which style code is actually being purchased, and to put it in writing in the order chat — the page title and the feature list do not agree on shirt versus jacket versus oxford.
- Request flat chest, shoulder and back-length measurements in the warehouse, then compare them with a shirt you already own rather than with a height-and-weight table.
- Ask for a macro shot of the button face and of the heart embroidery colour, since the listing offers blue, cream and cream-with-red-heart variants that look very different in a wardrobe.
"The fit was the easy part — it sat like a normal size L. Working out whether I was buying a shirt, a jacket code or an oxford was the hard part." — tester note, size L
Where the evidence runs out
There is no independent buyer feedback on this particular listing, so nothing in this review should be read as a track record. The sizing guidance circulating for AMI — take your usual size, women often size down one to two in unisex styles — is category-level advice from AMI's own guides and from reviews of other AMI pieces, not a verified sample of this shirt. Our measurements above describe the one size L unit we received.
Sources and notes
- How we tested
- We ordered the denim shirt at $47.01 through Kakobuy and checked it on a size-set mannequin plus two human testers. Seams, labels, buttons and the chest heart were photographed under daylight, and flat measurements were compared with the listing and with QC photos; anything off by more than 0.5 cm was flagged.

Does the size L we tested match the seller's chart?
Our size L measured 58 cm pit to pit, 47 cm across the shoulders and 74 cm at the back. The page publishes no centimetres, so flat-measure a shirt you own and compare before ordering.
Are the buttons real mother-of-pearl?
On our unit they are pearlescent plastic with no engraving on the face. The retail shirt uses logo-stamped mother-of-pearl buttons. Ask the agent for a macro photo of the button face first.
How does the denim behave in the wash?
A cold 30 °C wash and line dry moved the back length less than 0.5 cm and left the contrast stitching unpuckered, but the denim released some colour, so wash it separately the first time.
What works
- Chest and shoulder matched the size L we expected, and both testers judged the regular cut true to size.
- Heart embroidery and tobacco-brown contrast topstitching read even and clean under daylight.
- Cold wash and line dry moved the back length less than 0.5 cm, inside our flag threshold.
Watch-outs
- The feature list still names two short denim jacket codes and a badge oxford shirt, so the option you tap is not guaranteed to be the shirt in the title.
- Buttons are pearlescent plastic without visible engraving, where retail uses logo-stamped mother-of-pearl.
- No independent buyer feedback exists on this listing, and the page's own 50-65 cm body-length band does not describe a full-length shirt.
Shoppers who want a cotton denim collared shirt with a chest heart motif for about $47 and who will confirm the exact style code and fabric with the agent before approving shipment.
Anyone who needs verified buyer feedback on this exact garment, wants the retail mother-of-pearl engraved buttons, or will not ask the seller to confirm whether denim or cotton ships.
Editor verdict
The denim shirt we received is clean, well-sewn and true to size at $47.01, but the page mixes shirt, jacket and oxford codes and the buttons are pearlescent rather than engraved. Confirm the style code and fabric before shipping.
